Convert Your GPA
Type a GPA to get its letter, or pick a letter to see its grade point. Your GPA is matched to the nearest grade point, so 3.50 sits exactly between B+ (3.3) and A- (3.7) and rounds up. A+ only appears on the 4.3 scale. A weighted 5.0 GPA is scaled to its 4.0 equivalent first. Check your school policy if your transcript uses different cut-offs.

How GPA Is Calculated From Letter Grades
A GPA is usually calculated using grade points and course credit hours.
The basic formula is:
GPA = Total quality points ÷ Total attempted credit hours
Quality points are calculated by multiplying the grade-point value by the course’s credit hours.
For example:
- A B in a 3-credit course: 3.0 × 3 = 9 quality points
- An A in a 4-credit course: 4.0 × 4 = 16 quality points
- Total quality points: 25
- Total credits: 7
- GPA: 25 ÷ 7 = 3.57
Courses with more credit hours normally have a greater effect on your GPA.
